Operational Process
Applying foil or flock is a two-step process. Precision is key.
Step 1: Screen Printing the Adhesive
Screen Setup: Use a low mesh count (86-110 mesh / 34-43T) with a thick emulsion stencil. You need a heavy deposit of adhesive for the foil/flock to grip into.
Printing: Print 2 strokes. The layer should look milky and raised.
Flashing: Flash the printed adhesive until it is just dry to the touch (gel state). Do not over-cure! If you fully cure the adhesive in the dryer now, it will not melt and grab the foil later.
Step 2: Heat Pressing (Activation)
Placement: Place the metallic foil sheet (color side up) or flock paper over the printed adhesive area.
Pressing: Heat press at 150°C – 160°C (300°F – 320°F) for 10 to 15 seconds using Medium-Heavy pressure.
Peeling (Crucial):
For Foil: Allow the garment to cool completely. COLD PEEL ONLY. Peeling hot will rip the foil off the adhesive.
For Flock: Follow the manufacturer’s instructions (usually cold peel as well).

FAQ – Troubleshooting
A: For standard cotton items, no. However, to achieve maximum wash fastness (especially on poly-blends or frequently washed items), we highly recommend adding 2-3% of our Water-Based Crosslinker (Fixer) before printing. Note: Once the crosslinker is added, the pot life is 8 hours.
A: Yes! When doing foil printing, it is a pro secret to tint the adhesive with a pigment that matches the foil color (e.g., adding a little yellow/gold pigment for gold foil). If the foil ever micro-cracks over time, the matching color underneath hides the flaw perfectly.
A: You likely pressed it too hot or peeled it while it was still warm. Heat press temperatures exceeding 165°C can dull the metallic finish of the foil. Always ensure a strict Cold Peel for maximum brilliance.
A: No. This is a printable adhesive designed to bond materials to garments permanently. If you need glue to hold your shirts to the printing platen, please check out our Water-Based Pallet Adhesive (Liquid Tack).
A: This is the most critical step. You should only flash the printed adhesive until it reaches a “gel” state—meaning it is surface-dry to the touch but not fully cured. If you run it through the dryer and fully cure it before the heat press, the polymer cross-links prematurely and loses its tack. When you finally heat press it, the foil or flock will simply wash off. Flash at around 100°C (212°F) for just a few seconds until tacky, then proceed to heat pressing.
A: Patchy flocking is almost always caused by an insufficient deposit of adhesive. 3D flock fibers need a thick “bed” of glue to anchor deeply and stand upright. To fix this, ensure you are using a low mesh count screen (86-110 mesh / 34T-43T) coated with a thick emulsion stencil (high EOM). Apply a heavy deposit (print-flash-print) to build up the adhesive layer. Additionally, always wait at least 24 to 48 hours after the final heat press before conducting any wash tests to allow the chemical bond to fully set.
